About the Role:
Hennepin County Environment and Energy Department seeks a seasoned Energy Center Manager to oversee operations at the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) and ensure seamless delivery of heating/cooling services to downtown Minneapolis. The role plays a critical role in advancing sustainability, equity, and operational excellence in one of Minnesota's largest publicsector energy projects.
What You'll Do:
Serve as the owner's representative to the Hennepin County Energy Center for its operation, maintenance contracts, and service agreements.
Monitor daily energy plant output, ensuring safety, efficiency, and county standards compliance.
Organize contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to manage contract compliance, invoice approval, and operating effectiveness.
Organize and direct preventive maintenance programs and capital projects to minimize downtime, maintain quality, and contain costs.
Offer year-round operations and capital budget management, in balance with cost control and sustainability plans.
Monitor operational data to compare performance, analyze equipment malfunctions, and refine facility efficiency.
Implement diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that encompass racial, gender, LGBTQ+, neurodiversity, and accessibility equity into building operations.
What You'll Need:
Education/Experience
Either
8+ years of OR multi-facility management
Bachelor's degree in facility management, engineering, architecture, or allied field + 4+ years of experience.
Current valid driver's license and the right to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
Technical Skills:
Ability in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and AutoCad.
Knowledge of electronic maintenance management systems, boilers, chillers, and steam/chilled water systems.
Maintenance program analytics and interpretation of blue print/specification.
Core Competencies:
Strong budgeting, project management, and vendor negotiation abilities.
Compliance with DEI values and continuous professional development in equity-related issues.
Nice to Have:
Minnesota 1st Class C Engineer (1C) license.
Mass burn plant operation experience or government energy management experience.

Schedule:
Hours: Monday–Friday, flexible between 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., occasional after-hours/weekends. Sites: Primary site 616 10th Avenue South, Minneapolis, with occasional stops at HERC (505 6th Avenue North).
